Info Guildworld - General discussion [place names and other assorted topics]

This is the thread for discussing anything general about Guildworld,
with the exception of climate and biomes, which will have it's own thread.

This thread will be for keeping track of place names for bodies of water, mountain ranges, whatever.
I'll keep updating the info in this first post, and I'll try to keep a map here with new name info.

New world map with new bodies of water added
    Guild World Map base 00c.jpg

New map scale - 1000 miles
    Guildworld - new scale 01a.png
New map scale - 500 miles
    Guildworld - 500 mile scale.png
New map with some updated info
Guild World Map base - numbered countries 14.jpg

    So discussions are open.

I propose that the ocean directly north of my country be the "Great Northern Ocean!"

Just took a few snapshots, I'd say there's about three big water areas that count as oceans, though the polar oceans are slightly complicated as they're divided by what would presumably be polar ice. I'm assuming an earth-like globe with ten degrees of polar ice cap.

The south is pretty simple, it's one big ocean, provisionally call it the Great Southern Ocean.

    oceans east.png

The "Eastern Ocean" (C) is either one huge ocean with big islands in it, or it's broken into two lobes, D and E. The lobe to the west is entirely enclosed by land so more of a big sea, but there's no rules.

    oceans north.png

The northern ocean is complicated because it's a huge body of water divided in two by the polar ice, with the southerly part stretching down to fairly warm waters. I'd suggest the Great Northern Ocean covers B and the polar ice, with the A part having a separate name.

All other stretches of water are seas - has anyone else named seas that I haven't spotted?

I think my nation is going to call the southern ocean the Racourioso Ocean (based off some messed up derivation from "rancour"). The Milkwash sea will be that area in the mouth there between me and Korash and the Silent Sea will be in that little dip in the coast line on the coast of me Chasio, Barek and Ravelles. I was mostly thinking coastal waters when doing the names.

Rancorous Ocean is a great name, I like it. It would be a pretty cold and nasty place.

I can add some polar land if that will make any of this easier for everyone.
I have a pretty good technique for doing that.

With the ice cap, the northern ocean is a different shape than I had in my mind. I suppose "Great Northern Ocean" isn't very appropriate after all.

It's up to everyone to work out the names.
I'll just keep changing the map, as things get updated.

What's with these mile scales? Everybody knows that kilometers is the way to go.

I don't have a lot of coastline so I don't have much to offer in the way of sea names.

I offer map commissions for RPG's, world-building, and books

Haha, we're out of date down here
That doesn't mean you can't offer up suggestions or discuss it with others...
    it's a community project.
