This looks really good Matthew, nice clean lines, and I like what you've done in the water along the coast.
Here is my second commission (first paid one). Here is the full version, packed with towns and labels.

I've followed your advice Mouse (and everyone else). How does the water look?
Here's another version without the towns, a bit less cluttered.

Thanks, kacey!
Nice job on this Matthew. It's got a nice clean layout and good choice of fonts. You've got that balance of simplicity and aesthetic well and the composition is well done.
It's more a matter of taste, but don't like the star, square, triangle symbols, but nonetheless they display what they need to clearly. The one thing I will say that isn't so much about taste, but the label for the mountains is pretty hard to read except when zoomed in, so depending on how the map is being used, it might not be fully legible.
Otherwise, another nice piece from you and congrats on the second commission.
Thank you, GLS!
I agree about the mountains and have quickly update it to be more legible. How does it look now?
Matthew
Congratulations on the commission!
The water is a thousand times better, Matthew
I agree with GLS about the town symbols, though if this is a black and white map I can't really say that you have too many alternatives, unless you use just circles and two sizes of squares. The stars... hmmmn. The circles themselves seem a bit oddly shaped (but maybe that's just my eyesight!).
Thanks Mouse!
I also sent the client a version without the towns and castle icons (just major towns and capitals). He said he liked that and will probably use that version in his book.
And your eyes do not deceive you, for some may be a bit oddly shaped, because I hand drew them all. I originally had all of them perfect shapes, but the client wanted them to be handrawn. For example something like from this to this.
Ooooh - I see now. LOL!
Just goes to show that you're very good at making deliberate hand jitter look like real hand jitter... if that can be considered a compliment? ...and that my eyes aren't as bad as I think they are!
Much more legible now, Matthew!
Great work on this Mathew. Very clean lines. An attractive piece.
