Thread: Frozen Bones Lake

  1. #1

    Map Frozen Bones Lake

Decided to try a slightly different angle from the one I usually use for my battlemaps.

The skeletal remains of a large creature. Most of it hidden and preserved in a thick layer of ice. Directly to the north of the monster's remains is an entrance into a cave, which might have once been its lair.

Thank you, DrWho42! I had a lot of fun colouring the snow and the ice!

I think the perspective/angle works quite well, it really makes the skeleton look that much more menacing. Love the patterns in the ice covering the lake - is that just some nice brushes you have, or is there some kind of a texture applied there? What software were you using, anyway?

I'm enjoying your work a lot. Keep 'em coming!

Thank you, Kellerica! No texture for the ice, played around with some of the default Adobe CC splatter brushes that utilize the Smudge tool. Linework on paper, coloring in Photoshop!

Thank you, Thomas! I agree. With this battlemap I decided even as I started developing the idea of a snowy/icy terrain on paper and experimenting with a different angle, that most of the definition is going to be done during the coloring process.

I love the way you drawn the reflections on the ice : one of the many details that makes this map so successfull !
