    Wip Village of [Darktimbers]

    Village of [Darktimbers](name for review...)
I've been working on this Village for a possible upcoming DnD campaign

Set in the outskirts of a forest, the town is mainly known for its' Wood Cutters and "dark timber" resource
the Wood Cutters use the slow running river for lumber transportation downstream from the Forest to the North

The town population is roughly 600
I've used the DnD3.5 rules for determining the amount of stores, their types, and whatnot

I put this together in Photoshop using my Wacom
I've been working on it for the past few days and finally think its looks OK enough to continue the next steps

I've yet to add things like fences, more trees, compass, a few other randoms, and scale.
I'm a bit confused on scale and was going to try for 40ft/square...if anyone has any input into this, please point me in the right direction

This is my first real City/Village since really delving into this stuff - Any critiques would be much appreciated!

    Thank you!

    It looks very good!

The only thing that bugs me is the background. It clash with the rest of the map in my opinion.
I would either add some texture in the back or make the grid less prominent.
Or maybe have the grid look irregular like if it was drawn.

Put a few more hours into this map...

Changed a few things and added a few items...like chimneys! I think they really added a nice touch to the small village

As of now, I do not like the way the labels sit...it seems off and I cannot seem to place it correct
I am also thinking of scrapping the Grid and using the sides, or a small reference elsewhere

As always, any critiques or input are welcome

OK, so a last ditch of effort before calling it quits for tonight...

I think I've found the Title and display problem, as well as a new name - of course, I will see if it looks as good now, as it does in the morning

The chimneys really add to the piece. Especially with the smoke it creates the appearance of activity and being lived-in.

Two points, though: the cobblestone road feels out of place for a village. I know that drawing it must have been a chore, but it doesn't fit, imo. Secondly, the grid: the lines look way too broad for me. Could you use thinner lines?

Looking really good, maybe the docks could do with a boat or two? Surely they aren't all out at the same time.

You're totally right about the cobblestones...especially for a place without a cobbler! Thank you for pointing that out
Also, thank you for your point on the grid, I am working on it now

Made some new adjustments based on the recommendations

I threw some extra texture on the background as well, not sure if its "too much"
I also put the well in, not sure if that is necessary or in good placement (maybe move it in front of the townhall?)

I hope the scale is acceptable, I do not have a good grasp with that yet

Will soon be updating and giving the buildings some more real world names
