Thread: May/June 2017 Lite Challenge entry: Scribble Rock

Default May/June 2017 Lite Challenge entry: Scribble Rock

    Hi Everyone

The May/June Lite Challenge this year gave us all the opportunity to map our ideal holiday destination, so... and being a constantly interrupted writer... The first thing that popped into my head was; 'Wouldn't it be a great idea if I could go away and stay on an island of my own while I actually finished writing... er... something'.

So, with thanks to all who guided me on my imaginary journey to it in the WIP thread, and for those who repped me and voted for me, here is 'Scribble Rock':

    Scribble Rock GIMP 07.JPG

The background to this map was recreated and slightly enhanced in GIMP, due to time constraints. Other than that this is a Campaign Cartographer 3+ map, using a mixture of native textures and some that I rendered using Genetica. I created the trees and shrubs in Blender, and imported them to CC3+ to use as symbols.

The little tables, parasols and boats, decks and so on, came from Bogie's Mapping Collection, which is available through the Vintyri Project

Once again - many thanks to all who helped, supported, voted and repped me and my map

    Thanks Voolf

Advice about the waves? I wonder who that could have been? Oh, but of course one of them was you, I seem to remember - along with Kirkspencer and XCali - thank you all for helping me sort out the 'icing waveline' I had around the island

Thank you also, Voolf, for shuddering at the grid-like rocks I once had in the ocean! Even though Bogie proved to me that it wasn't impossible, I think the more random arrangement suits the map better

(Maybe it should be me repping you instead!)

Thank you very much for the rep - much appreciated

A great map, as usual! I really like the look of the water and rocks, especially.
Well deserved win, Mouse! So congratulations to your first of many.

Also, "The Mouse Pad" and "Screaming Point". :')

    Thank you, Jizerai

If you are interested the technique I used to create the GIMP background, it's virtually identical to the one I used in this thread. Its not a tutorial, but the essence of the secret is right there.

I thought people might have a little smile at those two names

Excellent work and congratulations on your bling I already repped you but I'm going to give this thread a 5, erm what those little things are

It should really be a CC3 showcase piece.

EDIT: Oh you should consider tagging your thread with '2017' at least so it shows up when people search for things to nominate for awards

Thank you Straf And thanks again for the rep

The ratings, do you mean? I'm not entirely sure I understand what they do, but thank you anyway.

I think Redrobes refined the search thingummy so that we don't have to do the tagging thing any more. I seem to remember ChickPea telling us that somewhere, but I can't remember when or where

Quick comment about the Atlas Awards/tagging thing... assuming no major changes between now and next January, you don't need to tag your images '2017' (well, unless you want to for your own personal reasons). Mouse is correct that Redrobes put together a thumbnail scraper that works off the thread creation date. Therefore, any map that's posted in Finished Maps during 2017 will be indexed by the scraper.

If there should be any problems or any changes to this, we'll be sure to let you know in plenty of time, but for now, you don't need to do anything. Just make sure you post your work in Finished Maps! (Challenge entries won't be included UNLESS they're posted in Finished Maps).

Now with that out the way, congrats again Mouse! A well deserved win, and - I'm sure - the first of many.
