Default Sector 12 DMZ Star Map - First Sci-Fi map

I'm going to be starting up a sci-fi RPG campaign, so threw together my first sci-fi map. The campaign is going to have more of a well-worn, post-war feel than everything being bright, shiny, and new. So I wanted to reflect that in the map a bit. The weathering might not be super realistic, but I think it looks cool. The fold creases are a new trick for me (picture of folded paper, hard light layer mode). Made in GIMP. The stars are brushes are from redheadstock on DeviantArt.

While a 2D map is familiar and comfortable, stars are actually positioned in 3D space (e.g. in front of and behind the plane of the map). Have you considered showing that kind of info?

For practical purposes, I wanted to highlight the jump lanes more than positioning. I could mess around with trying to add a 3d perspective, but I'm not sure that's what I want with the style of this map. I'll try it and see how it goes. I also think I'll make a map for one of the systems, and will give it a go there!

If travel between stars is FTL, there's no real reason to show relative positioning. As mccoy says, the jump lanes would be more important.

    Cool map!
