Default July 2017 Challenge entry - Thunder Falls

    Hi Everyone

This was my July 2017 Challenge entry.

I think I said it was my first battle map, but I realise now that this wasn't entirely true, I did make a very small one last year with CC3 for Shessar's battle map competition, where I came second. But it was my first ever GIMP-made battle map - and very definitely my first ever try at a really BIG waterfall

Thank you so much to all who commented, repped and voted on the challenge thread

Here's one with a grid if you prefer

    Thunder Falls 05 GRID.jpg

Scale: 5ft per 100 px per inch.

If you want to try something similar...

The stone and grit textures are from textures.com
Brushes used to create the waterfall are from texturemate.com
And the bridge and fountain surrounds are from the Bogie's Mapping Objects collection

(If you want to know how I made the waterfall, I described the process in the Challenge thread )

    Question

That is really a nice battlemap Sue. Well done.

I'm still trying to figure out the sphere thingy? It has me all types of curious. Hehe.

(How did GIMP handle you this time? )

    Thank you XCali

That sphere thingy (which was almost designated a table till I sorted out the shading) is a mystery. It could be nothing - some relic of a cult that worshipped the sun, or it might be a heavily disguised portal that requires some kind of key to unlock it

GIMP was very well behaved this time - but this is a much smaller map than I usually do. Its only 3000 px square!

I'm usually not interested in these kinds of maps but it looks great - the waterfall effect is very striking.

Yep, probably one of the best-looking waterfalls I've seen done. And the spherey sphere turned out great too.

You mean the spherey sphere that started life as a not very spherey sort of table thing?

    Thank you D
