Just to say, being a member of the River Police, I far, far prefer to create scientifically and geologically accurate maps. This map breaks all the rules, but as a commission for a publication, it was necessary.
Legendary Games publishing just got their Legendary Planet sci-fantasy setting project funded on Kickstarter, and they want me to create all the maps for that Adventure Path. I've done two already, this is the third one - and the most detailed and problematic of the maps. On flimsy science, a rogue moon has collided with a planet destroying most of it in the process. Now the rogue moon forms the core of the planet, with 5 continental sized chunks of the previous planet remaining in orbit around the rogue moon core. A thin atmosphere surrounds the whole so all the continental chunks have breathable air. The top view shows the top down maps of the planetary chunks in the equatorial zone of the rogue moon core. The bottom right shows a side view of the continental chunks. Also there is a wormhole of sorts called Heart's Passage that allows vessels to travel from one side of the chunks to the other. The small inset map on the bottom left shows the lunar orbits. The two moons rotating around top to bottom of the planet are the surviving polar ice caps no frozen moons. The large moon on the standard orbit (only partially shown) is the original moon the orbited the planet. The planet is called Carsis.
I used Xara Designer Pro, a vector drawing application to create most of the map. The bottom right side view was created using Wings3D and Daz3D to render, as it was difficult to depict in methods other than 3D.
Enjoy!
