    Map City of Achêres

I'm spinning up a 5e game with some friends of mine after a climbing trip in France, so I'm building a world with a lot of names and such derived from climbing and the area of France we were in. Our AirBNB was in a town call Acheres, thus the name of the city where the campaign will start.

I've not DM'ed in literally 20 years, so it's incredible to see all the world building and map making tools out there now. I created this map in Inkarnate. Pretty impressed with the amount of drop in elements available with that tool. It took me a minute to get the hang of it, and I learned a lot. Definitely things from the start of this map I'd probably redo if I could. I fixed a lot of it, but still things I'd like to refine. I'm also just a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to design.

This is the first map I've done in Inkarnate, and honestly the first map I've designed since the last time I DM'd a game 20 years ago. Would love your thoughts on it. Critique and advice is welcome. I come from the advertising industry so I have pretty thick skin and just want to improve my skills.

Nice! It must be fun to be back playing again after so long.

For the map, it looks good. I like the fact you included some farms and fields, and take from the lack of them on the east side that there is some sort of constant raiding/threat from the forest? I also guess that's why there is only a wall in that side? Typically with fortifications, a body of water, by itself, doesn't really provide much of a barrier and so they would wall the entire way round. I don't see the point of the towers spanning the road at the entrance to the forest, or why they are disconnected. It seems at the very least they would bridge the two together, but in any case running the road between them actually makes them weaker than they would be were they simply on one side of the road or the other (because there's nothing to stop people just walking around them anyways were the to close the gate or whatever).

Are you going to label it or just decide what needs to be there as the need arises?
