    Default Planetary Base

    Hi there!
Those days i'm really fond of a video game called kerbal space program where you can build rockets and space bases. After a while building space bases i realised i've never tried to map an outer planet outpost, and that's the begining of this little project
I've been playing with sketchup 3d warehouse (for the buildings), qgis (for the topography) and photoshop for the render. For now im trying different views of the sketchup model, still not sure of the point of view i'll used for the final map.
Here's a first render, i'll probably go with a more vertical view for the final map.

and a more vertical view for the map itself:

An update with the planet view and a few tests for the final composition.

Wow! It's looking great . I love this last one, it has a "in game" or "bande dessinée" feel to it. The planet is especially gorgeous.

The bande dessinée feeling was exactly what i was trying to do
And damn i forgot to give the base some water pumps!
On that one i guess i'll tell they use the mining facility to extract water !

That's pretty cool. Do they have a source of water? Or is it recycled and imports?

Hey this looks fantastic! Love the detailed buildings and the planet texture. The new HUD is a great improvement indeed.

This is really cool! I agree with everyone that the HUD looks great. I love the RTS vibe I'm getting from this. The cel shading on the buildings works really well.
