The rivers still have a very creepy "feel"... but I'd say that is because of their layout, not any problem with the style.
The overall effect of the map is great though. What method did you use to create your mountains?

Created in: Photoshop CS4
Notes: Created for an RPG I'm near completion on. I'm very happy how this turned out - I've still al lot to learn but practice makes perfect ...hopefully! ;D

Thanks Freodin, I think part of the river problem is that they may be a bit too 'thick', but it'll do for now!
As for the mountains:
I started with a clouds layer, then manually brushed lighter and darker areas where I wanted the mountains to definitely appear.
I then took a second clouds layer and blurred & merged them together so my hand lightening became more random & less obvious again.
Then one spotlight lighting effect and four corner omni lights effect.
Then colour overlay grey-brown and inner bevel, soft chisel 1pt to bring out the bumpy relief appearance.

Quick update,
I finally finished the RPG this map was for (orbis Terrarum RPG) and after getting the KS patrons to name a few places I have fully labelled it up..

I think it looks better for the labels so I'm happy with the finished article
