Thread: January 2015: Realm of the Forest

Default January 2015: Realm of the Forest

Going to add my small pick to this challenge. With this, I want to attempt mapping something that I personally have never attempted before, and is far from my usual style. That's why they call it a challenge I guess

This is going to be a map over a small nature, fairy tale kingdom, depicting a miniature realm in a small forest clearing. The realm is inhabited by a small forest folk, that makes homes out of tree trunks, mushrooms, stones – whatever you might find in the forest. For this quick project, I will draw inspiration heavily form the wonderful illustrations by Elsa Beskow.

Thus far, I have begun by drawing the two tree trunks that will be the centerpiece, and "castle" or capital of this fine kingdom.

    Cheers,

Sure thing Arsheesh. A small update, for a small map.

Mushrooms houses? Great Hard to tell before seeing the finished thing but the ones on the upper right looks overscaled, no?

Can a mushroom house really be to large? Can it? Jokes aside, yea, they became a tad bit too large. However, as I add more I should be able to make that mistake blend in

Lovely idea, looks very nice so far! Planning to add color if you have the time, or will it be black and white?

Thanks Lingon! I haven't decided yet. Standing between two options (depending on time). Either color it, and keep to the kind of childish concept, or perhaps add some rough shadows, and give it a more gritty look to make it more unique.

Another update! Having some time over for this tonight, so hoping to have the outline done by then.
