Thread: I lost my GIMP tool options dialog, how do I get it back?

Help I lost my GIMP tool options dialog, how do I get it back?

In messing around with GIMP, my spastic fingers inadvertently clicked in the wrong place, in the wrong order, or just plain wrongly. I don't really know how it happened. My tool box, which previously had the tool options displayed in the lower half, now has a blank area that says "you can drop dockable dialogs here"

I can open a tool options dialog from the <windows> <dockable dialogs> menu, but that is a free floating dialog that disappears under the toolbox when I click on the toolbox. I'm missing something, I imagine it's something simple, as dragging that dialog over the toolbox does not attach it to the toolbox.

The online tuts are kinda vague on this sort of thing so far as I've found.

    Hope someone can help. Thanks.

When you drag the floating box over, are you grabbing the title bar? That might be your mistake. If you grab the tab header (where it says 'Tool Options') just under the title bar and let that go in the drop area, that should work. The drop area should light up when you drag the tab over it. Hope this makes sense!

YES! Thank you very much ChickPea. That did the trick. Learning a new software package is such a steep learning curve. At this rate I'll be quite a while before I can really start working with my map, I'm happy to have found a good place to learn.

Gimp is quite tricky at the start, but it gets easier as you get more familiar with the tools. Hope you manage to create something nice soon!
