Question Photoshop Question about Dissolve blending style

Is it possible to "Flatten" the blending style? I'm trying to do some water reflections, using a soft white brush and a dissolve blending style get's me so close to what I want, but then I just need to soften it a bit, but I can't find anyway of overwriting the dissolve style, and it remains hard and pixelated. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Maybe. If you mean a Layer Style, right-click on the style in the layers panel and select "create layer" - it's not always perfect depending on the type of effect you're using and some kinds it just won't work with.
If you're using a layer blending mode, try merging it onto a blank layer before flattening further, or maybe a white layer and then change the blending mode to multiply before flattening.
Or you might try setting the brush blending mode to dissolve instead of doing it to the layer.
And there might be a chance that you could make just the layers you want to flatten visible and then select the whole canvas and copy all of that onto a new layer to mess with further (ctrl+a > ctrl+shift+c > ctrl+v).
Or perhaps someone else will have a better idea.

Rep to you for using dissolve. I have never found it helpful.

Can you make the layer you want to dissolve, save it as a .png, then bring it back in and use Blur on it to soften it a bit?

Not very clear on the differences between layer styles and blending styles, I'm winging this a bit, but yes I think I did mean layer styles.

I created a new layer below my current water reflection layer, and used "Merge down". This allowed me to blur the image using a normal layer style. I think it looks OK, I'll have to see what feedback I get on it though

    Thanks Chaps!

    Much love,
