Interesting stuff, I like the red pulsing dots a lot.
Hello everyone!
As i work with gis software, i often used web maps for data visualisation. If those are really usefull, with zoom levels and interactions on click, they're not always so pleasant to look at. That make me want to try a version of a webmap with a sci-fi style.
I used the API leaflet, combine with lots of cool plugins. The basemap on the smallest zoom levels is based on night views of earth provided by the nasa, with a label layer on it. On bigger zoom the map will change and is replaced by a national geographic style map, done by esri.
You can check the webmap here: http://37.59.20.51/testfonctions/

screenshot of the webmap, if tiles doesnt load correctly, try to zoom in.
A few example of the plugin used:
Panoramio - Shows photos of places, those are the geotag photos of panoramio, they appear on the map as small round icons and they can be clicked to see the photo
Wikipedia: If you zoom closer on the map, wikipedia point of interest will appear, lots of articles contain latitude and longitude reference, so you can put them on a webmap, yes there's a plugin for that
The red pulsing dots (another plugin!) are the city with more than 2M habs, you can display the exact number of inhabitants if you click on those.
The layer menu is the icon on the top right of the screen, there is also a menu with countries of the world on the bottom left of the screen, you can select a country and the map will zoom on this country. Feedbacks and critics are welcome

Nice work. I'd love to be able to do all that with a fantasy setting.
