    Default The Island of Vayyo

I started working on this map a week ago, after I checked - Max -'s mini tutorial in which he explained how he did his mountains.

I'm very proud of how it turned out. The day before I started I thought it would take me some years before I could create maps like this, and one week later I can proudly present to you:

    The Island of Vayyo

    The Island of Vayyo Final.jpg

The map shows the Island of Vayyo (obviously), also featured in my City-State Union map, in the year 156 ADA, some 15 centuries earlier, when it was part of the Ayyan Kingdom. But that sort of information is only interesting to me I guess ;p

It's not perfectly to my liking yet. The compass roses, for example, were done very quickly, and I somehow couldn't get the Vayyan Forest to look right. I'm also aware of the fact that this map looks stylistically very similar to that of Max. However, I learned a lot doing this map. I tried out a bunch of new things and styles. When I can afford a tablet in a month or two I'll definitely practice with this style some more.

As always, let me know what you think!

    [EDIT 22-3-16]

Here's a black and white version of the map too:

For a week work, it's pretty well done . I'm not found of the regular lines at the sea shore, but the color scheme is nice. The mountains are very similar to that of Max, indeed .

Hey, that's pretty great! There's nothing wrong with emulating someone to improve your own skills, and you have definitely done that - this looks awesome. I especially like the effect of the hills in the forest.

I can't rep you right now, but if I could, I would.

This is fantastic, Dan! It's so different from the style you usually do, that I had to double check I had the right person!

I can see Max's influence (I used his tutorial myself on the map I posted earlier) but it's great to learn from the master then put your own slant on it, which I know you will do on future works.

Looks beautiful! I don't think I could make a map like this for a few years, but now I want to try. Have some rep!

Thanks ChickPea! It's funny what you say about this map being a different style than I usually do, because just the other day I said to someone that I didn't really feel like I had a style of my own ;p So it's good to hear that I actually do (:

Even if based on a tut it still looks splendid.
