    Default Commission - Tell Rawja

Hi all! I'd like to present you to my newest commission: a city map for the RPG world Deuterra.

Tell Rawja is the capital city of Barios, ruled by the half-orc King Rawja the Fierce. The city has a population of over 45,000 people, with the majority of it being half-orcs. That's the short description - there's tons more over on their wiki.

It really is an amazing world, and I consider it a massive honour to be part of it, even in such a small way.

Alright. The city is situated along a river, which has been diverted around an artificial plateau. The plateau houses the royal palace, an arena and a bunch of government buildings. North of that is Victor's Reach, sort of the upper class quarter, and directly south of the river is Old Town, the original seed of the city. There will be other walled sections as well, and a huge, sprawling favela (only shown on the fringes of the map) for the somewhat less fortunate, but these aren't shown yet.

So this is my progress so far. I finished the linework for Olde Town and all but finished it on the plateau (the arena can use a little more detail and I need to throw in some rectangular buildings). Must be at least 15 hours of work in there! Silly little houses take a LOT of time. Next I'm finds work on the northern section a bit, where housing should be a little less dense, so it should go a little faster. Can't tell you how glad I am I'll only be showing a tiny bit of the favela 😁.

    Great start!

Boy, that is a lot of lot of silly houses! But the looks great. So how many city maps have you done altogether?

Well this will be a substitute for Sagitarii as you can't work on it now. I'll be following this!

EDIT: Just looked over at their wiki and page, pretty epic!

Alright, an update for you guys! I finished all the linework except for the easternmost walled section and the area outside the walls (for which I'm awaiting instructions from the client). Starting to get the hang of the housing linework a bit: the additional work since the previous update "only" took me about 10 hours.......

Looks like the linework is nearing completion then! I'm guessing 5 to 10 more hours, depending on the work the client wants me to do on the outside-the-wall area. Once that's done, I'm gonna do the labeling first, since they would like to use the map during Roll20 Con (which is this Friday already!). Colouring and shading will be done after.

Hi there people! I've managed to do some more work on this map, and have reached a first final version!

There's no colouring yet, but that's fine for now. The first purpose of the map was for it to be used during the Roll20 Convention (which should have started an hour ago), so the essential bits were linework and labeling. I only managed to get that done *just* in the nick of time. Phew!

So! Since this is considered a "preliminary final version", I was able to lift the watermark and present it to you in all its naked glory. You like that, don't you? Dirty-minded rascals!

    Next up: colouring and shading!

Nice, very detailed. Just a nitpick, took me a moment to realise where the gates were, seemed a little unclear. I assume the bumps in the walls are towers, with the double bumps being gates?

That's right. It should get a little less confusing once the colouring is done 😉

Hi guys! Thanks for your compliments, you are amazing. And because you are, I made sure to bring another update! I've been pretty busy these last few days, but I did manage to get some work done with regards to colouring Tell Rawja.

    Done at this point:
    - background (parchment texture),
    - navigation stuff (compass, scale),
    - frame,
    - river, and
    - walls (no towers yet, these will be in greenish bronze)

Currently I'm working on the houses. Already filled in each of the blocks, but now the tedious job is to erase the open areas in the middle. Have started doing that in the east, and will (slowly) move westward.

Also, and entirely off-topic: does anyone know what's wrong with the signature pictures? I noticed mine was missing so I tried re-uploading it, but whatever I do, it keeps failing. Weird!
The images I upload in threads also appear as missing, but when I hit "submit reply" it does appear. Weird˛!

    Oh man, looks awesome already.
For erasing the open areas in the middle, would it not be possible to use a magic wand tool and select the middle area and just delete it? Depends how connected all the lines are I suppose.

As for the signature... Yes! I have noticed that. I was wondering if it was only me..
