Haha, that's such a fantastic way to get your landmass shape!
A nice start too. Lookign forwards to where you go and I hope to see lots more inventive sources of inspirations!
Hey everyone. Even though I have one large personal project as a WIP going, that I haven't had time to return to. Crazy me, I started another one.
The husband and I were making ice cream and I took a picture of the process. When I looked at it, i thought, that would make an excellent land mass for a world!
Here's the picture I took.
Today I started roughing it out and converting it to a photoshop file to work on, and illustrator to put down some circles and such. This is just a rough, but captures the idea I'm going for. It's still very rough and all the area's are not final. Going to do some map research for ideas. Maybe go to the map room in the NY Public Library and look. Certainly going to push things on this one. I'm going to try going for some non traditional map coloring as well.
I'll post more as I work on this. Probably won't get back to it for a week. Have some client stuff to deal with.

Looking forward to the map's development!

Hahahahaha! Well never give up! I have a big project as well and I will tell you my secret for not giving up on it. BE STUBORN! Being stuborn is a novelist and a mapmaker's best friend.
We all wish to create, but do we really create?
What we draw and what we write is part of us.
No we do not create, we simply discover who we are.

Ice cream and maps! It doesn't get any better.
You're off to a nice start and I'm interested to see your take on "non traditional map colouring."
