    Default Jack's Camp - last commission project

    Hello everyone;
    Jack's Camp is a small lumberjack camp, there is the famous Drunk'n Griff 'n inn, a few woodcutter huts and a stone circle where druids perform their rituals ... this map was commissioned by BrutalRPG.com, a free and great indie Rpg

    Very nice!

    The inn seems quite small.. but oh well. Have some rep!

    Well, if it's a magical inn maybe it's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

    A fine looking piece. I'm a sucker for nice smooth semi cartoony B&W pieces like this. I like how you represented the elevation and light and shadows of the trees.

    I like this map quite a bit too...has a nice smooth feel to it.

    I do have a problem with the shadows though...They are nice and subtle, but the orientation is not consistant. If you look at the buildings as a clock, the building at 3 oclock has its shadow to the west, the building at 5 is off to the South west, at 1 it is more north than west, at 10 there is none, the trees at 3 are to the north west, and the inn itself has shadows in 2 directions...

    Sorry, but it is shadows that usually jump out at me...Otherwise, NICE map

    the light source should be on the right !! i know i have some trouble with the shadows .. but hard to stay focus after many hour of work !! and i noticed that I make mistake when I turn my sheet to be more comfortable !! have you an easy way to identify the areas that should be shaded ?
    i used the real light source (my desk lamp) when i painted some miniatures (warhammer), but on paper it's impossible ...

    thanks for your comment anyway

    I think you can only use references. Maybe go to NASA's website. They've got pretty detailed satellite photos that can help you. I go there when I want reference pictures on shadows, and National Geographics is a goldmine too. Voilà mes deux centimes.
