Looks painterly enough, I'd say. Not sold on the forests, though. Compared to the rest they are too... flat, maybe? Beautiful Norse location symbols, though!
I tried to create a painted look here. Not completely satisfied.
Done in PS.

This looks really nice, like the painterly effect. The Rhumb lines seem a little busy and don't seem to align. The color is really nice and love the color of the icons. Another great job, thanks for sharing, always nice to see your work.
Great map, I really like it! The painterly effect is a win and works well with your lovely icons & colors. Everything looks just fine to me, except maybe for the transition lands/waters. I would probably prefer a more clear coastline somehow.
Ooh, great colors on this piece. I like the distressed effect along the borders as well. Also, those city icons are fantastic. The rivers bother me though. The color is just too dissimilar to that of the ocean. Also I agree with the comments made by snodsy and Ilanthar as well.
EDIT: Guess I have to spread around the love some more before I can rep you.

This is really nice. I love what you are doing with your mountains, in particular, but everything with this painterly direction is good. I like it a lot.
One thing maybe... the emphasis on the island, with the much lighter interior and solid dark lines of the circles centered along the length of the isle is making it appear to sort of jump off/float above the rest - almost like a zoomed in detail view. I wonder if you lowered opacity/roughed up/broke the light center and lines of the circle a bit... or it could just be me, haha. Anyway, really nice map.
Very nice map and paint effects! interesting approach!!
