"Well, I woke up this morning, I got myself a map..."

Inspired by all the nice hand drawn maps around here at the CG lately, i gave it a try myself while having Coffee(s) and Cigarette(s) on the balcony this morning. It became a classic carribean island

Hand drawn and then scanned. Coloring, labels & parchment background done with good old gimp.

Nice one ! I'm wondering, what kind of pen did you use ? You certainly manage way better fading lines that I do !

Thanks guys, glad you like it. @Thomas: As you might guess, i was much inspired by your recent work to sit down and work with pencil and paper. I worked with a Faber-Castell ink-pen (0,3 mm i guess). The fading stems just from lightly lifting up the pencil at the end of the stroke. As i've written somewhere before, i trained this "swing" by doing zillions of smudge-strokes for the mountains on my Dor-en-Ernil map with the wacom tablet. As it seems it works with a real pen too Whether the pens or the paper (i just used normal printer paper) have their effect on the fading too, i'm not sure, since i don't know much about "traditional" drawing and the materials.

It's looking very good and we immediately recognize your style ! hhhs, I should really try to draw myself, plus I think I have faber castel pens (0,3 to 1,5 mm I believe) somewhere in my stuff.

Glad my boredom inspired this pretty map. I really like the simple colors you used, everything blends very well together. And I'm also glad to see some more of your mountains, I missed them since Cayad. Thanks for the practicing tip, I'll warm my wrist a bit (I've got five or six maps in jeep of shading, that'll do the trick).
@Ilanthar : Go for it, it's surprisingly way more easy than with a tablet.
