    Default Region Maps

    Hi everyone!

I'm been reading and learning things around here for a while, but only registered a few days ago.
I would like to congrats and tks everyone for this awesome community!
Tons and tons of amazing info and stuff here!
    Well done!

    So let's begin:
I'm currently writing a medieval fantasy book and decided to draw a map for guidance purposes.
Started with hand drawing but soon I found about CC3+ and ended up buying it.
    Amazing software btw! Loving it!

I started with a huge canvas (10000 miles x 9800 miles) and pretty much filled it. I think that maybe 80-90% of the canvas is my main continent + islands.
I'm almost done with the mountains, forests, rivers and stuff, so now I'm wondering about the regions maps.

    My question is:
    What should I do????

    - Zoom in the regions and fill them with stuff too?
    - Re-draw regions maps as new maps?
    - "Copy" the region and paste as a new map/file?

    Tks everyone!

PS1: I'm at work right now, so I can't post my map, but if you need/want to see it I can do it later.
PS2: I'm brazilian and my english it's a little bit rusty, so sorry for any typos and mistakes

I'm not aiming for a super detailed nor photorealistic map, at least, not now hehehe
But if you have any advices or critics, fire at will!

Hi Paulo... Can I call you that? I missed your introduction thread, and can't seem to find it now.

This is a pretty cool map for a first map. Are you sure you haven't been practicing?

I can see that you have thought a lot about the geomorphology - the placement of the mountain ranges and a few very major fault lines, which is good. You have also clearly mastered quite a few of the program's features already, which is impressive.

    Tips for future consideration:

You may not have played with the Sheet Effects just yet, but if you want to blur the lines between the regions of your map the most commonly used effect of all is the Edge Fade Inner, which softens the edge of a patch of texture and blends it with the underlying textures, giving a more naturalistic look to the world

Also, I see that you have a vast swathe of white space around your map. If you render it by using File/Save As/Rectangular section JPEG, and take care to define the rectangle in the options box in the same proportions as your map height and width (for example 1000x980), then enter the coordinates "0,0", and "10000,9800" when prompted for the first and second corners in the command line at the bottom of the window, you can get rid of that white space. This will allow you to upload a much larger and more detailed image by cutting out the wasted white space of the image.

    Happy Mapping

I think I did something wrong when posting my introduction hehehe, but did that again now.

    Tks for the tips!
Didn't now about this fade inner effect, will give it a try today.

I can see you know a lot about CC3, that's nice!
Loving the software! So many options and details!

    You're welcome

If you haven't come across the Edge Fade Inner Sheet effect just yet, then you have so much more to discover!

I normally exhaust a piece of software within about a month as far as making new discoveries about what it can do goes (including Vue and Blender), but I've had CC3 for 5 months now and I still haven't discovered any boundaries

As for your other questions about splitting the map into sections, I wouldn't know very much about that since I am far less experienced in the making of world maps and breaking them down that way, but there are entire crowds of people here who are practically experts in stuff like that. I wouldn't want to confuse the issue by even attempting to speak at that level

    Hi Paulo :-),

First let me say that it's a pleasure to meet you! And you have a wonderful first map, here! It's great to have another cc3+ user join the ranks. Mouse and I are both cc3+ users, and there are a few others of us in the guild, so you are in good company!

I might also suggest that you join the forums at profantasy as well. You can get great help here for making maps, but at the profantasy forums you can get help specifically for cc3+. A lot of us are members to both sites.

Now about your actual questions! It is possible to take a section of your world map and turn it I to a regional map. If you have the manual that came with cc3+, there are even instructions on how to do it. There's also a very good discussion about it on the profantasy forums.

I will admit, I'm still learning some of the more advanced functions myself, so I may not be the best person to answer.

Oh!! I almost forgot! We do have a group of cc3 users here...the group is called campaigning cartographers, feel free to join us . That way, you can see the other cc3 users here at the guild, and may be get some help from them.

I hope I've been of some help...and welcome to the guild!
