Post Cartography in online game Chronicles of Elyria

    Greetings cartographers!

I’m member of a community waiting for an online game (mmorpg) called Chronicles of Elyria, looking to recruit cartographers to the game and our kingdom.

Part of the description from https://chroniclesofelyria.com :
The most dynamic and immersive MMO to date, Chronicles of Elyria is the first MMORPG where your character ages and dies, encouraging you to think beyond your character to their role in a larger story.

Fearless in its design, it embraces a character's ability to impact other characters. A closed economy, finite resources, non-repeatable quests, and a fully destructible environment means the world is experienced differently for every character. Each time you log in there is something for you to participate in. Local, regional, and national conflicts are continuously unfolding, giving birth to repeated opportunities for you to change the course of history.
Now why I am coming to you:

There will be an extensive cartography system ingame. Navigation will be a skill to learn (by day and by night) and there will only be very rough maps of Elyria at the beginning. The players will have to make their own maps – it will be a good and profitable business ingame to go out for the dangerous and difficult task of mapping the kingdoms of Elyria.

It will be a challenge and difficult, moving around the digital world trying to find out where you are and mapping everything. You might have nothing but landmarks to orient by – or maybe you got yourself a compass or other tools to help you. In the night, you will be able to navigate by the stars. The stamping tool will be in your home, like a crafting station. So you will need to take notes while on the go, and get everything on paper once you are back in safety.

I personally believe that having good maps is very important in this world, and that you, as a hobby cartographer, would have a lot of fun doing it from the perspective of someone a few hundred years ago 

If you are interested to join, feel free to get into contact with me. Of course the world of Elyria is open to you. And while I would love for you to join our peaceful Kingdom of Arkadia, it is up to you which kingdom you would choose to follow your passion. We will be playing on a european server. I speak English, German and French.

Release is set for December 2017. Please follow the links below for further Information or contact me directly.

Thank you for your time and I hope I will see you in Elyria,

Too bad there was no such a game when i was young ;/

As appealing as it sounds, i guess most of us enjoy more mapping in our favourite softwares and with clear idea, what we want to map. Going around virtual world and mapping it with build in game simple map maker is completaty different thing. It requires different skills also, sense of direction, some scaling and math.

10 years ago i would jump in just for the fun in the game, but now i will pass. Thanks for sharing though. Wondering how others will look at it.

Thank you for your answer Voolf

yes, it is a very different skillset, added challenges and a wholly different Level added to making the maps. But then it is rewarded by the fact that thousands of Players will use your maps - you can reach a big amount of People and they would all love your work
