Default Happy Easter! A Cautionary Tale...

So, Easter supper, showed up early and my wonderful partner suggested I bring my laptop and get some work done on some commission maps. I had myself set up and was happily drawing away, a glass of wine was delivered, and I felt pretty cozy and loved. Soon a nearby wrestling match exploded into gales of laughter and flailing limbs. "Why is my keyboard all red?" I said to myself.

Yep, a whole glass of wine across the keyboard and drawing tablet...

I'm still waiting to see. I powered it down and unplugged it instantly, inverted it with absorbent towels underneath, and I'm going to take it in for service tomorrow to see if there's any way it can get cleaned before I power it back on. I'm considering the merits of doing maps with ink and paint!

So I'm sure you've all heard the admonitions; no drinks near your computer, back up your work, etc. But I have two very important things to add.

When it's time to get together with family, do that! No working ! And... if someone gives you a glass of wine... drink it up, don't save it! You just never know...

Take care everyone, and have a happy holiday weekend!

    Best,
    Meshon

    Oh Meshon!

So sorry to hear about your disaster

Maybe everything will be all right, though.

    Good luck with the servicing

A friend of mine let his brother check his email on his company laptop and his brother spilled a glass of wine all over it. My friend almost got fired. Almost.

    Happy Easter Meshon.

Sad story, i hope nothin was damaged.

It reminded me a fail of mine. I spilled tea on laptop. Fortunately only one button stopped working. PrtScr. My friend said i was lucky its the least usefull button, but i disagree. I sometrimes do a screenshot and paste it into graphic program for reference, or to steal the colour i like . I had to remapped my PrtScr with SharpKeys program and now i am using Scroll Lock for print screen

That reminds me of something that happened to me. I was working on my very first town map ever, about 3/4 finisher. I was just about finished for the night and wanted to take my drink and step back to see how my map looked. I don't know how it happened but I spilled my whole drink on the paper and the map was ruined. I redid the map eventualy so the Town of Dullvo I've shared here is actually the Town of Dullvo 2.0 ;p

    Happy easter everyone!

Sorry for this disaster! In any case, you had the right reflexes. I hope that it will be effective and that the laptop appreciates the good wine!

Oh no, that's awful. I think you're doing the right thing in leaving everything off till it can be checked out. I hope there are no major issues.

I'm now warily eyeing the coffee sitting next to my expensive mechanical keyboard. I better go drink it....

Eeeek! Hopefully there won't be any lasting damage. I think some laptop keyboards are sort of sealed so that anything spilt on them doesn't get into the electronics.

    The coffee or the keyboard?

That keyboard doesn't happen to be a Model M does it? There's something deeply satisfying about typing on one of those although I haven't seen one since about 1989 I still remember the feel and sound of them

Nah, that's a little bit before my time! I read stuff now and then where people still talk about that keyboard. It must have been a wonder for its time.

Mine is a Razer Blackwidow with backlit keys, ideal for those emo moments that require typing in the dark. I got a small Christmas present/bonus at work a few years back and, like the saddo I am, I spent it on a keyboard!
