Thread: Sketchup Make v Sketchup Pro

  1. #1

Default Sketchup Make v Sketchup Pro

Does anyone know if there are any functional differences between Sketchup Make (the free version) and Sketchup Pro?

Their website doesn't mention any, other than the expected one - you can't sell anything you make in the free version (Sketchup Make).

I did this in less than 5 minutes after watching their tut videos, but I hesitate to go any further with it and waste my time learning even more new tricks if after the 30 day trial I lose half the functionality.

    I certainly can't afford pro.

As a hobbyist you dont loose almost anything, as most of those Pro options are for really business usage, and even if you have Pro, you probably will never use them.

    Edit: More here.

    Thanks Voolf

Though I find the software very intuitive, for some reason I have difficulty finding stuff on with their webpage! LOL!

I'm interested in using the sandbox to sort out a few topography issues I'm having with my Guild City map, but I doubt I will have done it in just 30 days flat. That's why I asked

Just to round this off I finished up the hut

Total work time (not including the time I spent creating my own textures in Genetica to use on the model) about an hour.

Lovely textures, expecially the door and windows...

Thanks Voolf - the doors and windows are part of the structure, and the wood texture, and doorstep are native to Sketchup. I made the tiles and the stone for the roof and the walls.

I don't like it. The pantry's too small and there's some damp in the attic

Nice work Mouse, it didn't take you too long to master that

    Thanks Straf

Sketchup is easy if you pay attention to the official tutorial videos on the website. The hard bit is trying to make it look less sterile. Id say it was more suited to modern city building than anything else, but it will be interesting to see if anyone proves me wrong by making a really excellent medieval town or a rugged dungeon in Sketchup

I've also yet to master the topo aspect.

Oh that is an interesting read and viewing. I never saw that because I 'm very lazy and haven't bothered to look at a lot of things that were before I joined up here

Heck! I've just realised - Its got no chimney!
