Hi, I joined moments ago in the hopes I'll be able to commision someone to make the world map for a book I'm trying to write. I say trying to write because I'm finding it difficult to create the world this story is based in from thin air if that makes sense. Anywho I'm happy to have found a place where so many talented cartographers have gathered, and hope to work with some of you in the future.

I think you may find, as I did, that it's very rewarding to draw your own maps for your story/stories. Give the Tutorial forum a try as well; if nothing else it gives you something to do while you wait for replies to your commission request!

I have the general plot for my story drawn out but I'm struggling to ground it in the world it's in. I've written and rewritten the first few chapters a half dozen times just making up locations as I go along but I'm finding it too crippling.
To directly answer your question I'm looking for a map to attach/begin/build my story in to.

Well, you've certainly come to the right place for inspiring maps. I'm a relative noob, but I'm sure someone here can help you out.
