    Wip February 2020 Challenge: Atlantis

I don't know if this city is "exotic" so much as it is "iconic." Anyone familiar with bonafide Atlantis lore will expect there to be a certain layout and structure to the city, but there's still plenty of wiggle room for artistic interpretation. This map tries to translate Plato's description of the city into a scale and proportion more suitable to a Tabletop RPG campaign setting. For instance, my take on the "houses within the walls" of Atlantis which Plato described is that they were all boathouses.

I like the idea to sketch Plato's descriptions within this map (of course, as an archaeologist, I proberbly have to like it). Your idea of using boathouses is very interesting and fits well into the map I think!

So that's what happened to Atlantis! Wonderful idea for the challenge and a great entry.

It looks like an iconic Atlantic map to me! The iconic legendary city is no less exotic for being familiar.

Woah, Atlantic Venice! What a dreamscape!

Latin is not one of my strong points but shouldn't “Empire of the Sea” be “Imperium Maris”? Unless you want to have “Marine Empire” which I guess would result in ”Imperium Marinum”… It's not as pretty assuming I didn't fudge it up along the way!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! RE: Eowyn Cwper: You are probably right about the Latin translation. I figured the word "Marina" would evoke a stronger mental picture for an English-speaking audience. Perhaps I shouldn't underestimate the intelligence of my audience in this way. Thanks for your feedback!
