    Wip Aqua

    Hi folks,

many many years ago (almost 25) I discovered a computer game called "Schleichfahrt" (engl. Version: Archimedean Dynasty) which was followed by Aquanox and Aquanox2. All played in a flooded version of earth called AQUA. With this game a map was delivered:

I loved that one (although I do not really know why exactly. Maybe because of my love to water, because I liked the game so much or I was just addicted to maps already...who knows) and I decided that 25 years are enough time to give that map a new look and do some tribute work.

So I started to "remap" the old game supplement by starting with a shaded relief map from Natural Earth Data. So far I just cutted an rearranged that one to centralize the pacific ocean and played with many styles, colors and the like. It is just sort of a sketch for now, but I will try to get further soon. Here's the first WIP:

Fascinating. I remember the title of this game but never played it. And I never heard or read the word "Bodengestalt", despite being German all my life. And it fascinates me how the original map already looks as if someone played with pastose blots of oil color on the planet Earth. Never realized that before.

    That said:
I like the colors you chose for your map. Are you also planning to add a frame and legend later, or are you focusing only on the map itself?

I saw it before at some maps like school atlas, but I think it might be something more old-fashioned

Yeah this map is on the one hand looking like something typical, on the other it is very different from everything else (especially 25 years before) and maybe you are totally right and this is because of the special coloring

It will definitly get a frame and legend, but they will be different from the original (although there isn't a precise idea yet). I'm also thinking about more information, like undersea-stations, which where presented on the ingame map, but not on the paper version. Additionally I maybe add some logos for the different "Aquatories" to add some more detail. But I will see how that works together, when all these things are prepared.

If you have ideas what a "coat of arms" of "Shogunat", "Tornado-Zone", "Atlantic Federation" and "Clansunion" should include, feel free to post it ;-)
