I was unsure about that too. Looking out into the Wastes from the POV of the city, standing at a high point on top of a cliff/tower/palace and overseeing the ruins that stretch out as far as the eye can see, is how I interpret that line. It has the functionality of a map, but a perspective unusual for a map, to bring the viewer closer to the city, making it a more intimate destruction.

I suppose I can't post something like that without also showing a bit of my work. You want weird something you've never done before? I can do weird. I mean, obviously I do the fantasy thing too, as my fantasy map portfolio reveals but some of my maps are just strange and since it sounds like you don't know what you stylistically want just yet, well, maybe this'll pique your interest.

But yeah, I'm not quite sure what it is you want mapped by the pitch: a city surrounded by waste, or a wasteland with a city inside of it (a difference in focus), or something truly unusual in its perspective. I'm also a comic book artist though, so I'm down for just about anything you can imagine.
