Update! A first splash of shading, and the first rivers!
Mapvember 1 (2).jpg
Following the example set by more illustrious Guild members, I thought I'd do a short series of fast maps over the course of November. Now I definitely won't do one a day (mostly because I have commission running in parallel), and I won't call it a quickie either. I have done 3 of those already, and neither turned out to be anything close to quick, so I'll just go ahead and call this a smallie. Or maybe a halfbakedy?
Here's the first WIP!

I like the start to this one, looks very pretty.
No mapvember for me because I'm trying to do some writing this month instead (which has already become a proper slog).
Oh my, i love the somewhat "painterly" lights and shades on the mountains! Looking forward to see your mapvember unfold.![]()
Thanks guys!
I got up super early this morning (oh the joys of fatherhood with a newborn and a 2-year old!) and got some more work done. Let me know what you think!

Alright, another update!

All that's left now is shading the remaining three corners (ran out of time today) and the labelling! This will be a Faroe-inspired place, so get ready for all those øs and æs!

Or do you guys prefer a version with more subdued or more saturated colours in the seas?

I think the 4c one looks the best of the three options, the leaves are too dark in the blue background version imo.
Thanks QED. The last two images were quick mock-ups without paying too much attention to corner ornaments and such - I would of course adapt these to make them stand out more. But you're right, this paler version is something I haven't done before, so why not explore that a little further!

Okay, labelling! Well part of it anyway, since workday has started here, and that means I move over to my work laptop to keep myself from any more map fidgeting. The temptation is strong, but this way it is impossible to succumb

Any remarks so far?
