    Map Kingdoms of Firleand

    Hello guild...

Lately i was not much active here as i would want. Here i want to present to you one of the things that kept me busy.

This map was a commissioned and i must say it was my most stressful mapmaking job yet. On map is six kingdoms all separated by water. Map was commissioned without names because client wanted to fill the details later (only the central kingdom and the cities within was specified.) But for the purpose of presenting it in portfolio i put some time into name generators Do you have some specific way how you come up with your place names?

Anyway at the end i am kinda proud on myself and would love to hear your opinion on this!

This looks really good! The color contrast works well. I just hope that the antagonist (in the game/book) isn't someone who has a slight sense of humor and love for linguistics... I can imagine them trying to rearrange the world name from Firleand to Fireland... Just open a gate or two to the plane of fire and the job is done.

As for naming it depends on how much I know of the world I am drawing. Sometimes I will base names off of other languages. If it is a green wood in english, how about Grönskog in swedish or just butcher it a bit to grensko forest. Who knows? If I use the same language for a region though it helps the words look a bit more exotic (to those who don't know the language) and keeps the names still having the same feeling(?. wrong word... pronunciation style?) when said.
