Default AVENTURIEN - The World Map

    Hey everyone! =)

I've realized that I never really shared the largest project I've ever worked on... Over 30 years of hundreds of authors' continuous worldbuilding coalesce in this map, consisting of 3,000+ layers and standing about 5 meters tall when printed full-sized. It is THE most ambitious mammoth-project I've ever worked on, put together over months; down to the very shape of each city-dot that features the individual city limits. The map depicts Aventurien (Aventuria), the world of the German TableTop-RPG 'Das Schwarze Auge' (The Dark Eye). These are merely parts of the overall project; most Maps with ingame-feel I post here are from this world.

There is another type of overlay, but yeah, I've focused on only parts of it all. Hope you like it! =)

Oooooh this was my very first RPG, back to college ! I was a very bad GM at thoses times, leveling up my players just because I wanted to play some badass stories and not just killing rats and goblins. Nice to see the world we was striding !

Not to rain on your parade (awesome map, btw!) but this is NOT the world-map. This is "just" a continent map. There are a lot more continents to this world.

And yes, with these kinds of things, I'm pendantic Sorry (not-sorry) ...

@Skaald: Hey, glad you remember it fondly after all that time! Thank you!

@Eliathen: Haha, you are - technically - right, but for an RPG we usually talk about the places where gaming takes place as "the world". But yes, to those unfamiliar, this is the continent for "The Dark Eye / Das Schwarze Auge". Thanks!

It's a feat, such vibrancy through-out. I absolutely love the way you did the forests and coasts, Steffan, this is an eye catcher!

Holy cow that is a detailed map! It looks amazing and the sea texture/depths really do pop. The compasses as well are really cool. This map is well worth the rep!

    Ambitious! Well done!
My mind is a bit blown at the 3000+ layers and the full printed version standing at 5m. Wow! It makes me wonder what size is the canvas on the computer?

@Adfor: Thank you! Yeah, that really is a departure from what I usually do. Part of it has to do with what looks / works best with the technical limitations that file size has. =)

@Arimel: Thank you twice for your comment and the rep! Really appreciate it! =)

@XCali: I don't have the canvas size in front of me right now, but I do remember it was 4x DinA0 (DinA0 is 841mm X 1189mm) with WAY over the typical resolution you'd need for print, so you can scale it up over double that size without loosing crispness. The map in fact was made to have cut-out areas to focus on like the ones shown above. Thank you!

Love these maps. Don't play The Dark Eye, but I purchased the core rules along with the map set & several other books just because the world looks so damn cool! Been thinking about setting up a GURPS campaign & seriously considering using Aventuria as the setting.

Thank you! Super happy you can so much out of it even though you don't play the setting. Enjoy, hope you have a great time =)
