Thread: Ilean Heartlands

    Default Ilean Heartlands

Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope everyone is doing well.

This is the region of the Ilean Heartlands, the the south central area of Eternum.
I was doing a deeper view based off of a map made by Voolf - Aeternum
We've both worked with Trenton Hoyal on maps before.
It was interesting to explore a place another guild member has already explored.
I also ended up working on a world map of Eternum, which I'll try to post before the year's up.

Stunning map! I really enjoy the great variety of biomes and landscapes that you captured in the one, not just the mountains and forests which are beautiful per usual, but also the flatlands, bogs, and the Willowvale.

Oh goody, a new map from you. Don't mind the drool, I'll clean that up in a bit.

    Thanks Turambar
The client had quite a lot of variety that they wanted in this and the world map that followed it.
It's a good challenge trying to make more distinct biomes.

Excellent as always, your ability to make a landscape look varied and interesting is pretty much unrivalled. I love the style of the mountains too.

As I've already told you, it's a marvel. One of my favourites of what I've seen of your recent work. It's got everything I love about your work: your eye for detail, your unique ability to render mountains, rivers, forests and other biomes, the light, the way the map is staged, with the harmony that emanates from the whole: map, elements and frame. My only less positive point here is the choice of fonts. It's probably a very personal opinion, but a very ‘modern art’ font takes me out of the magic of the journey that's being offered to my eyes. Anyway: thank you so much for sharing your work here, where we can admire it in detail!
Can't wait to see the other maps...
And also, happy new year 2025: full of new works!

Getting the feel of variety can be challenging.

The client has a whole history to his world and each region, and has some links to earth time periods, with this map looking to be somewhat like art deco, which influenced the font choice, as well as the border and compass concept.

Thanks Ilanthar I hope all is well with you.
I see you are equally busy with large maps.
I will try to post the world map before new years. Maybe I can get to that on sunday.
That one is good to wander in.

Nice work as usual, J.Ed. Up to your usual high standards. I'm not a big fan of the cutouts at the bottom and right side; seems like it would've been better just to extend the canvas slightly. But that is indeed a minor quibble, and there are probably valid reasons why you didn't. I think what always makes your maps work the best is the sheer intricacy and stunning linework - I don't know how you have time to do ONE of these, much less the dozens you turn out each year.
