    Post Cartography Freeware?

Is there a freeware for Cartography at all? I'm just curious. I don't have a computer at home right now so I use a friends but I don't want to put software on his laptop. Kinda wanting something that might fit on a flash drive or something.

    thanks in advance.

Not for cartography specifically, but lots of people here in the forum use GIMP

    Some use Paint.net

Inkscape is good if you want scalable vector graphics

Autorealm is similar to Campaign Cartographer, it's pretty good too... and FREE!

Gimp can install to and run from a flash drive. Look up portableapps.com. Lots of handy programs that run from a flash drive and require no registry entries.

Thanks guys! True it has been a while, but rest assured, I do try to keep up with what's going on thru Google Reader. Syndication is GREAT!

I haven't actually tried running any of these apps from a flash drive, but anything that can be run outside Programs/appdata folders in Vista/7 should be able to be run on a flash drive. I have run GIMP this way and it does work..

If you really want free cartography software, there's GRASS GIS, although that can be a nightmare. Also, there's SAGA GIS, which is marginally easier to master, but still a bit of a row to hoe.

Awesome. Thank you all. I'm gonna see what ones I like and try to download them ASAP so I can start getting used to doing this on a computer. Thanks again!
